Out of sight doesn’t have to mean out of mind.
By hiding lights, speakers and cameras behind walls, in pieces of decor or in other discrete locations, the piece of technology can see and reach you without you necessarily seeing it.
On the extreme end, people are camouflaging wide-view security cameras as smoke detectors. People will also store subwoofers in nearby rooms, delivering the booming sound through a special tube and a small speaker head mounted in a wall.
“You have all the lower bass in your theater without having the speaker in your room,” said Daniel Karen, principal technologist for Clark International. “That’s a game changer.”
Some security cameras can be built into things like birdhouses and door frames. When the camera detects something, smart security systems can send instant alerts via email or text message to your phone. Magnetic locks can also be hidden in door frames.
